When Farol Santander came into existence it immediately became the symbol of a contemporary city, and its emblematic silhouette has remained a São Paulo landmark for the past 70 years. Currently, Farol Santander is a beacon to the future and it preserves memories of the past. We would like to offer to our more than 700 thousand visitors a series of experiences and activities connected to entrepreneurship, culture and recreation.

Among these experiences are the immersive art exhibitions we have held featuring both Brazilian and International artists. Unprecedented in Brazil, such exhibitions were devised with the intention of sensitizing guests and provoking reflection.

In the exhibition Reveries - The Worlds of Jee Young Lee, we have brought two installations with unique scenarios that were especially adapted by the South-Korean artist for the 22nd floor. In her projects of imagined landscapes, both installations suggest to the public an immersive and extremely playful experience that propels viewers toward the land of surrealism and dreams.

These immersive experiences demonstrate that the interaction with art encourages us to innovate, reinvent attitudes and bring new perspectives into the world.

Try to remember when you were a child and came upon a maquette for the first time. There’s something fascinating about such microcosms: the puzzlement of the inverted scale, followed by the assimilation of the whole from an incredible viewpoint; the possibility of entering some space that exists or will exist - even if only through the eyes: not with the body, but through the imagination. These are models that vibrate on both the physical and mental level and they represent the past, or that which will come into being.

Lee appears to understand this fascination with models better than anyone else. She invites us to enter the universe of her reveries, turning us into co- creators, witnesses and participants of her mental worlds. Turning us into Alices in Wonderland or Gullivers on the archipelagos of Lilliput, Lee saturates us with her mental world: a world that no technological form of virtual reality will ever be able to arrive at.

Lee’s models catapult us not toward physical structures, but mental ones. Her worlds are not made out of pillars, bricks and mortar, but extracts of her own memory, dreams, nightmares, skin and heart. Each photograph documents and complements the scenery that she has created by hand, like a residual image of something experienced. Constricted by the boundaries inherent to conventional photography, she adds plastic creativity and theatrical performance to these worlds, with the intent of lending life to a universe that up until his moment had only existed before her two eyes - and then exorcizing it.

Entering one of Lee’s works is a childhood dream come true: at last we can get inside the maquette. Maquettes are the toys of the soul.
